What to do?

St Ives is the perfect place to holiday, regardless of your age or interests. It can be the place to come for a relaxing week or take part in local activities at your leisure. Here are just a few examples of what is on offer in the area.

Walking - It is very enjoyable to wander around the streets of the town, The Island and the beaches. If you would like to venture a little further, information about local walks can be found here.

Surfing - Porthmeor beach is a very popular destination for surfers with different capabilities and further information can be found here.

Fishing - This can be done from various locations including the piers or if you fancy a boat fishing trip there are many which are advertised from the harbour side in peak season. Crab fishing can also be done from the harbour at high tide. Seals can often be seen around the beaches and in the harbour.

Beaches - There are award-winning beaches at Porthminster and Porthmeor and during the summer months fully qualified life guards are in attendance. Other beautiful beaches in St Ives include Porthgwidden, The Harbour and Bamaluz. During the summer months there is a 24-hour dog ban on Porthmeor, Porthgwidden and Porthminster beaches. For dog owners Bamaluz beach allows unrestricted access all year round. Further information can be found on here.

Boat trips - Self drive boat hire is available from the harbour side and skippered trips are also advertised from here in the peak seasons.

Mini Golf - Both Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches have a course nearby.

Parking

There are several car parks in St Ives which offer both long stay and short stay car parking availability. As with most Cornish seaside resorts parking in the peak season can be busy but you can generally find a space. At the long stay sites a weekly ticket can be purchased. A daily ticket will cost £7.50 (2017).

  • The Island - Approach from Island Square St Ives. This is the nearest long stay car park to The Digey.
  • Barnoon - Long stay.
  • The Sloop Inn - A short stay car park which is situated to the rear of the Inn.
  • Porthmeor Beach - Short stay.
  • Smeatons Pier - Short stay.
